DESCRIPTION:The goal of this Academy Colloquium is
to establish a basic theory of dependence and ind
 ependence underlying seemingly unrelated subjects
such as bound variables in logic, database theory,
the theory of social choice, random variables, Me
ndelian genetics, causality, and even parts of qua
ntum physics. There is an abundance of new results
in this field demonstrating remarkable convergenc
 e. The concepts of (in)dependence in the different
fields of humanities and sciences have surprising
ly much in common and a common logic is starting t
o emerge. For more information, see https://www.k
 naw.nl/en/news/calendar/dependence-logic or https:
 //www.knaw.nl/shared/resources/actueel/bestanden/.
Young researchers, PhD-students and research mas
ter students in dependence logic or related fields
are cordially invited to send a proposal for a 20
minutes presentation of their research in the Aca
demy Colloquium. Although the colloquium will be f
ocused on dependence logic, the scope of the prese
ntations is wider, and other aspects of mathematic
al, computer science and philosophical logic perta
ining to dependence and independence concepts or t
eam semantics will be accepted as well. Submission
  deadline: 14 February 2014.
