SUMMARY:Agent-based modeling in philosophy, Munich
 , Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20141211
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20141213
LOCATION:Munich, Germany
DESCRIPTION:In the past two decades, agent-based m
odels (ABMs) have become ubiquitous in philosophy
and various sciences. In contrast with classical e
conomic models or population-level models in biolo
gy, ABMs are praised for their lack of assumptions
and their flexibility. Nonetheless, many of the m
 ethodological and epistemological questions raised
by ABMs have yet to be fully articulated and answ
ered. This conference aims to bring together an in
terdisciplinary group of researchers aimed at unde
rstanding the foundations of agent-based modeling
and how the practice can inform and be informed by
philosophy. For more information, see http://w
ww.lmu.de/abmp2014 We invite submissions of exte
nded abstracts of 750-1000 words for contributed t
 alks by 1 June 2014.
