SUMMARY:Wyclif and the Realist Tradition in 14th C
 entury Logic, St Andrews, Scotland

DESCRIPTION:Historians of logic have known for dec
ades that the 14th century was a tremendously prod
uctive period in the Latin West. As far as the rel
ationship between logic and metaphysics is concern
ed, however, research has tended to focus on the n
ominalist tradition associated with Ockham and Bur
idan. The aim of this workshop is to redress the b
alance a little by focussing instead on the realis
t tradition that spans the 14th century. We have s
ingled out for special mention the influential fig
ure of John Wyclif, whose Logic is currently being
re-edited here at St Andrews, but we welcome cont
ributions involving other figures from Walter Burl
ey to Paul of Venice. For more information, see

866 Each accepted paper will standardly be alloca
ted an hour including time for discussion. Authors
of accepted papers will be provided with meals du
ring the conference and overnight accommodation fo
r three nights. Please submit abstracts of around
250 words to the organizers Mark Thakkar (mnat at
st-andrews.ac.uk) and Stephen Read by Monday 12 Ja
nuary 2015. We will notify you of the outcome by t
 he end of January.
