 The Netherlands
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20160407
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20160409
LOCATION:Groningen, The Netherlands
DESCRIPTION:Over the past five years the VISI rese
arch project 'Roots of Deduction', directed by Cat
arina Dutilh Novaes, has investigated the historic
al, cognitive and philosophical roots of deduction
. The main focus of the project has been a particu
lar multi-agent dialogical account of deduction, t
he 'built-in opponent' conception of deduction. Th
is has been used in the project to inform analyses
of ancient Greek conceptions of logic and deducti
on; to help us to understand mathematical cognitio
n and cognitive biases; and to shed light on class
ical and contemporary problems in the philosophy o
f logic. The closing workshop of the project is
taking place on April 7-9 (starting right after lu
nch, ending just before lunch) at the Faculty of P
hilosophy in Groningen. All welcome, but if you
wish to attend the workshop, please drop us a note
, as we only have a limited number of spots. For m
