SUMMARY:9th International Conference on Formal Ont
ology in Information Systems (FOIS 2016), Annecy,
 France
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20160706
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20160709
LOCATION:Annecy, France
DESCRIPTION:Ontology, originally a fundamental par
t of philosophical enquiry, is concerned with the
analysis and categorization of what exists. In rec
ent years, a complementary focus of ontological in
quiry has gained significant momentum, fueled by t
he advent of complex information systems which rel
y on robust and coherent formal representations of
their subject matter. The systematic study of suc
h representations, their axiomatics, their corresp
onding reasoning techniques, and their relations t
o cognition and reality are at the center of the m
odern discipline of formal ontology. The FOIS c
onference is designed to provide a meeting point f
or researchers from all disciplines with an intere
st in formal ontology. The conference encourages s
ubmission of high quality articles on both theoret
ical issues and concrete applications at the inter
section of philosophical ontology, linguistics, lo
gic, cognitive science, and computer science, as w
ell as in the applications of ontological analysis
to conceptual modeling, knowledge engineering, kn
 owledge management, information-systems developmen
t, library and information science, scientific res
earch, and semantic technologies in general. For
  more information, see http://iaoa.org/fois2016/
