 sults in building intelligent systems. The confere
 nce addresses issues involving solutions to proble
 ms that are complex to be solved through conventio
 nal approaches and that require the simulation of 
 intelligent thought processes, heuristics and appl
 ications of knowledge. The integration of these mu
 ltiple approaches in solving complex problems is o
 f particular importance. ISMIS provides a forum an

 erested purely in theory, those interested primari
 ly in implementation, and those interested in spec
 ific research and industrial applications.  We sol
 icit papers on any of the conference topics, as we
 ll as papers dealing with applications of Intellig
 ent Systems in complex/novel domains, e.g. art, hu
 man genome, global change, manufacturing, social g
