SUMMARY:Reasoning and Argumentation in Science, Mu
 nich, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20170531
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20170602
LOCATION:Munich, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Progress in science is not only a matt
er of new models and theories, but also of new way
s of reasoning and arguing for specific conclusion
 s. In this conference, we focus on these epistemol
ogical features of science and consider the follow
ing questions: Which new reasoning and argumentati
on schemes do contemporary scientists use? How are
these schemes justified, and how can they be asse
ssed? Is it possible to come up with a unified nor
mative theory of reasoning and argumentation in sc
ience? The conference focuses on reasoning and arg
umentation in the sciences in general, but there w
ill also be a special focus on reasoning in specif
ic natural and social sciences. Keynote Speakers:
Catarina Dutilh Noaves, Christian List and Wayne
Myrvold. We invite submissions for presentations
on any topic relating to reasoning and argumentati
on in science, broadly construed. Submissions shou
ld include both a short abstract (max. 100 words)
and an extended abstract (500-1000 words), and sho
uld be made through our automatic submission syste
m by 1 March, 2017. To submit, please prepare your
abstract for blind review and follow the instruct
 ions on the webpage.
