SUMMARY:Formal Models of Scientific Inquiry, Bochu
 m, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20170718
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20170719
LOCATION:Bochum, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the last two decades philos
ophical discussions on scientific inquiry have inc
reasingly utilized formal models. To this end a va
riety of formal models have been developed, starti
ng from analytical ones to agent-based models that
provide computer simulations of scientific inquir
 y. The aim of this conference is to bring together
scholars working on different approaches to the f
ormal modeling of scientific inquiry to discuss bo
th different types of formal models and the prospe
cts and limits of their usefulness for philosophy
of science, social epistemology and science policy
. Keynote speakers: Gregor Betz (Karlsruhe Instit
ute of Technology), Leah Henderson (University of
Groningen) and Jason McKenzie Alexander (London Sc
hool of Economics). We invite contributions on th
ese and related issues. Authors are invited to sub
mit an extended abstract (500-1000 words) related
to the above questions. An application for a speci
al issue with the conference post-proceedings will
be submitted to an internationally recognized jou
 rnal.
