SUMMARY:Discourse Expectations: Theoretical, Exper
 imental and Computational Perspectives (Detec2017)
 , Nijmegen, The Netherlands

DESCRIPTION:Studies on discourse processing indica
te that natural language interpretation is expecta
tion-driven. Even though it is uncontroversial tha
 t both linguistic (e.g. lexical items, morpho-synt
 actic constructions, prosody) and extra-linguistic
factors (e.g. world knowledge, speaker/hearer kno
wledge) are used to anticipate how discourse is li
kely to continue, the nature of their interplay is
a topic of ongoing research. DETEC approaches thi
s topic in an interdisciplinary fashion by compari
ng theoretical, experimental, and computational pe
rspectives. We welcome submissions of theoretical
, experimental and computational studies on topics
related to any aspect of discourse expectations,
how they arise, how they may be quantified, and ho
 w they may be modelled.
