SUMMARY:Workshop "Enabling Mathematical Cultures",
  Oxford, England
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20171205
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20171207
LOCATION:Oxford, England
DESCRIPTION:This workshop celebrates the completio
n of the EPSRC-funded project 'Social Machines of
Mathematics', led by Professor Ursula Martin at th
e University of Oxford. We will present research a
rising from the project, and bring together intere
sted researchers who want to build upon and comple
ment our work. We invite interested researchers fr
om a broad range of fields, including: Computer Sc
ience, Philosophy, Sociology, History of Mathemati
cs and Science, Argumentation theory, and Mathemat
ics Education. Through such a diverse mix of disci
plines we aim to foster new insights, perspectives
and conversations around the theme of Enabling Ma

be presented in approximately 30 minutes (plus 10
minutes Q+A). The Enabling Mathematical Cultures w
orkshop will have space on Days 2 and 3 of the mee
ting for a number of accepted talks addressing the
themes of social machines of mathematics, mathema
 tical collaboration, mathematical practices, ethno
graphic or sociological studies of mathematics, co
 mputer-assisted proving, and argumentation theory
as applied in the mathematical realm.
