Formal on tologies and knowledge representation mainly focus on characterising how a given domain is structure d, i.e., they identify a set of concepts, entities , and relations together with the constraints that hold for this domain. The structure of the charac terisation is usually intended to reflect the poin t of view of significant experts or a realist view of how things about a particular domain are. The aim of this workshop is to explore an epistemologi cal stance in formal ontology and knowledge repres entation and focus on the assessment of the modell ing provided by the ontology designer. In particul ar, we are interested in fostering the discussion about two intertwined research directions, the Epi stemological Foundations of Ontologies and the Ont ologies of Epistemology.

\nWe aim to address to an interdisciplinary aud ience, by inviting scholars in philosophy, compute r science, logic, conceptual modelling, knowledge representation, and cognitive science to contribut e to the discussion on the Epistemological Foundat ion of Ontologies and/or the Ontological Foundatio n of Epistemology. We welcome two types of submiss ions: Research articles for presenting original un published work, and Extended abstracts for present ing brief descriptions of ongoing research and pro jects, preliminary approaches, or descriptions of related previously published research.
