SUMMARY:The structure of modal & semantic reasonin
 g, Muenchen, Germany

LOCATION:Muenchen, Germany
DESCRIPTION:In the last 50 years, the success of p
ossible worlds semantics for intensional logics ha
s determined a discrepancy between techniques, aim
s and themes employed in the study of modal notion
s (broadly conceived as to include propositional a
ttitudes, probability, validity) and in the study
of truth. If the former endeavour focuses more on
analyzing the logical space given by possible worl
ds semantics -- leaving aside problems and limitat
ions that full self-reference and quantification m
ay provide -- as a model for understanding modal c
oncepts, the philosophical and logical mainstream
in the study of truth is still deeply concerned wi
th paradox and the self-referential aspects of suf
ficiently expressive languages containing a truth
predicate. The conference aims at bringing togeth
er researchers working on the interaction between
these two traditions with a particular emphasis on
expressive frameworks that treat truth and modali
 ties as interacting predicates.
