SUMMARY:Workshop "From minimal to complex collecti
 ve actions", Milan, Italy

LOCATION:Milan, Italy
DESCRIPTION:This workshop aims at bringing togethe
r philosophers of mind and action to discuss the i
nterrelation between minimal and complex collectiv
e actions from different angles. Questions include
(but are not restricted to): What are the minimal
criteria for there to be a collective action? How
do minimal or basic cases of joint action come in
to existence and how do they interrelate with more
complex cases that may take place in larger group
s and in institutional frameworks? Are complex col
lective actions reducible to a set of minimal coll
ective actions? Are non-human animals able to enga
ge in minimal collective action? What is the devel
opmental basis of minimal and complex collective a
ctions? What are the implications of minimal colle
ctive action for social science? What is the contr
ibution of neuroscience to our understanding of co
llective action? Keynote Speakers: Stephen Butter
fill (University of Warwick), Sara Rachel Chant (T
ulane University) and Kirk Ludwig (University of B
 loomington).
