SUMMARY:Workshop "Ouroboros: Formal Criteria of Se
lf-Reference in Maths & Philosophy", Bonn, German
 y
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20180216
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20180218
LOCATION:Bonn, Germany
DESCRIPTION:While self-reference is deeply intertw
ined with logic and foundational aspects of mathem
atics, the notion itself is still surprisingly bar
ely understood. For instance, it can be observed t
hat in discussions regarding the nature of Visser'
s and Yablo's paradoxes, often differing and vague
concepts are applied. However, there has been rec
ently several proposals of precise characterizatio
ns of self-reference. This workshop is intended to
facilitate a discussion of such proposals, their
interrelations and applicability to the paradoxes
as well as their adequacy to capture the intuitive
  notion of self-reference. This interdisciplinary
workshop, designed as a hybrid between winter sch
ool and research conference, is aimed at students
(incl. PhDs) and researchers from the fields of ma
 thematics, philosophy and computer science.
