SUMMARY:Workshop "Reflective Equilibrium in Logic
& Philosophy of Science", Bern, Switzerland
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20171116
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20171116
LOCATION:Bern, Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:The main idea of 'reflective equilibri
um' is that both our commitments to the validity o
f inferences as well as our logical theories are j
ustified if they agree with each other, and that t
his agreement results from a process of mutually a
djusting commitments and theories that try to syst
ematize them. This idea was later discussed and fu
rther developed in different fields, most notably
ethics, but also in theories of rationality, gener
al epistemology, and philosophy of science. The ai
m of the workshop is to discuss and reassess the m
ethod of reflective equilibrium in light of recent
developments and applications in logic and philos
 ophy of science.
