n The last decade has witnessed an increasing
interest in two related notions, the notion of me
taphysical explanation, or grounding, and the noti
on of mathematical explanation. Grounding is
often described as a relation in which expl
anans and explanandum are connected, not thr
ough some sort of causal mechanism, but through&nb
sp; some constitutive form of determination. Mathe
matical explanations, on the other hand, are
seen as mathematical proofs that not only prove t
hat something is true, but also why somethin
g is true.\n

\n\n \n After a
first meeting aimed at taking a first step toward
s bridging these two areas of investigation, the w
orkshop aims at further deepening our understandin
g of the connections between mathematical explanat
ion, grounding, and metaphysical dependance, explo
ring in particular the relationship between ground
ing and recent views of mathematical explanation,
the role of metaphysical dependance in the debate
on indispensability argument, and the application
of metaphysical and conceptual grounding to abstra
ction principles in the foundations of mathematics
.\n
