SUMMARY:Workshop on Dialogue and Perception 2018 (
 DaP 2018), Gothenburg, Sweden
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20180614
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20180615
LOCATION:Gothenburg, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:The study of dialogue investigates how
natural language is used in interaction between i
nterlocutors and how coordination and successful c
ommunication is achieved. However, studies on dial
ogue have often taken for granted that we align ou
r perceptual representations, an unsustainable ass
umption when we consider interactions between agen
ts with obviously different perceptual capabilitie
s, such as humans and avators or robots. Contrari
ly, studies of perception have focussed on how an
agent interacts with and interprets the informatio
n from their perceptual environment. In the last d
ecade there has been impressive progress on integr
ated approaches to language, action, and perceptio
 n. However, these have a limited integration to th
e dynamics of dialogue and often fail to take into
account the incremental and context sensitive nat
ure of language and the environment. The aim of t
his workshop is to initiate a genuine dialogue bet
ween these related areas and to examine different
approaches from computational, linguistic and psyc
hological perspectives and how these can inform ea
ch other. It will feature invited talks by leading
researchers in these areas, and high level contri
buted papers, presented as posters, selected throu
gh open competition and rigorous review. We invit
e papers of between 2-4 pages of content and up to
one additional page for references, following the
ACL style guidelines. The conference proceedings
will be published online, with an ISSN, on the CLA
SP website. Authors will have the opportunity to e
xtend their papers for the post-proceedings and wi
ll retain the copyright of their papers and be fre
e to publish them elsewhere, with acknowledgement.
