Title: The Formal and Computational Modeling of Analogy-Making
Date: Friday 15 April 2011
Time: 14:00

Douglas Hofstadter calls analogy the core of cognition itself, and undoubtedly numerous key abilities within everyday life (as, e.g., communication, social interaction, tool use) crucially rely on the use of analogy-based strategies and procedures. In this talk, we will introduce some basic notions of the formal and computational modeling of analogy-making, also pointing at some quite recent developments and research activities in the field. Finally, some first ideas concerning an analogy-based high-level approach to the construction of an integrated framework for the modeling of rationality and decision-making will be proposed.
