DESCRIPTION:On 21, 22, and 23 November 2005, the S
 chool for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS)
  organizes the annual three-day course "Research m
 ethods and methodology for IKS". The location will
  be Conference center Woudschoten in Zeist. The co
 urse will be given in English. Although the course
  is primarily intended for SIKS-Ph.D. students, ot
 her participants are not excluded.  The primary go
 al of this hands-on course is to enable Ph.D. stud
 ents to make a good research design for their own 
 research project. To this end, it provides an inte
 ractive training in various elements of research d
 esign, such as the conceptual design and the resea
 rch planning. But the course also contains a gener
 al introduction to the philosophy of science (and 
 particularly to the philosophy of mathematics, com
 puter science and AI). And, it addresses such dive
 rgent topics as "the case-study method", "elementa
 ry research methodology for the empirical sciences
 " and "empirical methods for computer science".  F
