DESCRIPTION:Event Calculus (EC) was originally cre
ated for modeling commands in programming within t
he field of Artificial Intelligence. However, in t
heir book, "The Proper Treatment of Events" the IL
LC's Michiel van Lambalgen and his co-author Fritz
Hamm take a cognitive scientific approach and sho
w that EC is also an extremely effective model for
the semantics of tense in natural language (as op
posed to say, possible world semantics). In the p
resentation we'll go over the basics of EC, dive i
nto the wonderful world of tense, aspect, and even
ts, and see how EC intuitively captures our unders
tanding of temporality expressed in language. I'll
also discuss what I am currently working on, spec
ifically, how I intend to use EC to tackle some cu
rrent issues with a certain type of conditional. I
 t's gonna be inTense!
