SUMMARY:Compositionality in the domain of tense, m
ood and aspect, Amsterdam (the Netherlands)
DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Amsterdam:20211015T133000
DTEND;TZID=Europe/Amsterdam:20211015T170000
LOCATION:Paushuize, Kromme Nieuwegracht 49, Utrech
t, the Netherlands (in the centre of Utrecht, 100
meters away from the Academy Building)
DESCRIPTION:In October this year Cambridge Univers
ity Press will publish The Compositional Nature of
Tense, Mood and Aspect, written by Henk Verkuyl (
UiLOTS, Utrecht). The title of this book clearly a
lludes to the PhD defended in Utrecht on Friday 15
October 1971, called On the Compositional Nature
of the Aspects. It was published in 1972 without s
ubstantial corrections. The fact that October 15 t
his year will fall on a Friday was such a nice coi
ncidence that it was impossible to escape from the
idea that the book could be presented on that ver
y day in a celebratory setting of some sort, exact
ly fifty years later. This has been developed into
the more concrete idea of a workshop with disting
uished speakers working in the domain of tense, as
pect and mood who could connect their contribution
to topics broached in the new book. The book addr
esses both linguists and logicians, so we are happ
y that UiLOTS (Utrecht) and ILLC (Amsterdam) have
joined forces in organizing this workshop.

e concrete idea of a workshop with distinguished s
peakers working in the domain of tense, aspect and
mood who could connect their contribution to topi
cs broached in the new book. The book addresses bo
th linguists and logicians, so we are happy that U

 orces in organizing this workshop.</p>\n
