DESCRIPTION:A hundred years ago, Wittgenstein's Tr
actatus Logico-Philosophicus was published in Engl
ish and in German. Since that time, the book has e
ngendered enduring fascination both from professio
nal philosophers and from interested laypersons. T
his interest is both due to the book's themes and
to its literary style. The themes include the natu
re of reality, the relationship between world and
language, the nature of logic, ethics, the self, t
he mystical. The Tractatus gives rise to many exc
iting issues of interpretation. The speakers of th
e Heyting Day will throw light on some of these is
sues, especially on Wittgenstein's views on the na
ture of logic and on the role of the first person
in the Tractatus. The day will provide ample room
to reflect together about what the book has to tel
l us. Sure, not all can be said, but we will try t
o say what we can and show what we can't.
