SUMMARY:1st International Workshop on Computationa
l Social Choice (COMSOC-2006), ILLC, Amsterdam
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20061206
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20061208
LOCATION:ILLC, Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:Computational social choice is a new d
iscipline emerging at the interface of social choi
ce theory and computer science. It is concerned wi
th the application of computational techniques to
the study of social choice mechanisms, and with th
e integration of social choice paradigms into comp
uting (read more). The 1st International Worksh
op on Computational Social Choice (COMSOC-2006) wi
ll take place on 6-8 December 2006 in Amsterdam. I
t will be hosted by the Institute for Logic, Langu
age and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Am
sterdam. The aim of the workshop is to bring toget
her different communities: computer scientists int
 erested in computational issues in social choice;
people working in artificial intelligence and mult
iagent systems who are using ideas from social cho
ice to organise societies of artificial software a
gents; logicians interested in the logic-based spe
cification and analysis of social procedures (soci
al software); and last but not least people coming
from social choice theory itself. COMSOC-2006
is generously funded by the NWO (Dutch Research Co
uncil), which will allow us to bring in several pr
ominent scientists as invited speakers, whilst kee
ping registration fees very low. The registrati
on fee is €60 (€30 for (PhD) students). Please reg
ister by 16 November 2006. For more information, s
