DESCRIPTION:"Τεάν, Ζεῦ, δύναμιν τίς ἀνρῶν ὑπερβασί
α κατάσχοι" Explanations are the crux of the cont
emporary AI Spring with logic lurking to claim its
vindication after the last winter. So far, what k
eeps the Spring going is the universal admission o
f the practical importance of XAI. In my talk, I w
ill introduce a certain category of (logic-based)
AI applications for which explanations are motivat
ed by an ontological necessity and not from a mere
ly supplementary practical POV. The justification
of my arguments originates in a political dilemma
dating as far back as the first normative conceptu
alisations of the concepts of democracy, justice,
and freedom that re-emerged revamped in the post-e
nlightenment liberal world order. The talk's centr
al theme is that sometimes the justifications of a
just judgment ought to be unjust. Or do they?
