DESCRIPTION:The two presentations examine how gene
rative AI systems are haunted by the visual pasts
they absorb, from war imagery amplified across soc
ial platforms to personal photos scraped into trai
ning datasets at incomprehensible scales. Marloes
Geboers traces how platforms and algorithmic ampli
fication shape what gets counted and recycled into
synthetic imaginaries, while Gabriel Pereira tink
ers with the automated pipelines that produce AI s
lop, surfacing the layers of mediation buried in t
hem. Together, we ask what critical and creative p
ossibilities emerge when we confront, rather than
look away from, the spectral afterlives of the con
temporary, algorithmic visual culture. For the fu
ll abstracts of the talks and the zoom link, pleas
 e visit the PEPTalks website.
