SUMMARY:Amsterdam Graduate Philosophy Conference o
n "Meaning and Truth" (AGPC'09), Amsterdam
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091001
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091003
LOCATION:Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:The conference is dedicated to explori
ng new ideas on what has been and remains a fundam
ental theme in the philosophy of language, namely,
the relation between meaning and truth. We invite
papers from young researchers who have an origina
l contribution to make regarding the role of truth
in a theory of meaning, the role of meaning in a
theory of truth, or even the question of whether m
eaning and truth are actually related in an intere
sting way. The conference is motivated by the on
going debates and discussions that pose new challe
nges on how to conceive of meaning and of truth, a
nd the relation between them. Some areas of intere
st here include: truth-functional vs. proof-theore
tic semantics; semantic theories of truth; the rol
e of context in interpretation; semantic normativi
 ty; deflationism; meaning as use; inferentialism;
 compositionality; vagueness; the semantics-pragmat
ics interface; language evolution. The program co
mmittee invites submissions in the form of short p
apers (not longer than 4000 words) accompanied by
short abstracts (not longer than 500 words). The d
eadline for submission is June 10 and it should fo
llow the on-line submission form, available on the
conference website. Candidates eligible for submi
ssion are graduate students and those who have com
pleted a doctoral dissertation within the last thr
ee years. For more information, please visit the
  conference website at https://www.illc.uva.nl/agp
