4 September 2009, Computational Social Choice Seminar, Rohit Parikh

Speaker: Rohit Parikh (CUNY)
Title: The Use of Knowledge in Social Algorithms
Date: Friday 4 September 2009
Time: 16:00
Location: Room A1.04, Science Park 904, Amsterdam

As many of us are aware, the formal study of knowledge goes back to the 60's and has become a veritable industry (especially in Amsterdam and New York) in the last thirty years or so. However, its importance in the running of society has been less studied. We will give some formal and informal examples of the way in which knowledge and knowledge transfer enter social algorithms. We describe some of the older work of Aumann, Geanakoplos and Polemarchakis, Parikh and Krasucki, some recent work of ourselves including work with Pacuit and Cogan, and even more recent work by Loes Olde Loohuis.
