SUMMARY:The Making of the Humanities II: Second In
ternational Conference on the History of the Human
 ities
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20101021
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20101023
LOCATION:Doelenzaal, Singel 425, Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:This is the second of a biennially org
anized conference that brings together scholars an
d historians of humanities disciplines to draw the
outlines for a comparative history of the humanit
ies. Although there exist histories of single huma
nities disciplines, a comparative history would sa
tisfy a long-felt need, and fill a conspicuous gap
in intellectual history. The first highly succ
essful conference, held in 2008, discussed the ear
ly modern period. The theme of this year's meeting
is From Early Modern to Modern Disciplines, focus
ing on the period 1600-1900. Topics include all as
pects of the history of philology, linguistics, rh
 etoric, musicology, literary theory, historiograph
y, art history, archeology and other humanities di
sciplines, with an emphasis on their interrelation
 s. Registration deadline: 30 september. For more
information, see the conference website at https:
 //www.illc.uva.nl/MakingHumanities/2010/.   The Pr
ogramme Committee cordially invites all researcher
s to submit their papers for presentation. Please
send an abstract of maximally 400 words to: Histor
yHumanities at gmail.com. Deadline for abstract su
 bmissions: 15 June 2010
