SUMMARY:Reasoning about Space
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20030617
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20030621
LOCATION:Bloomington, Indiana (USA)
DESCRIPTION:Recent years have seen lots of excitin
g work in spatial reasoning in computer science, A
I, and philosophy. The motivation for this work ra
nges from image analysis and geographical informat
ion systems in CS through attempts to exploit prop
erties of space in diagrammatic reasoning, to pure
ly mathematical issues of expressivity of language
s with respect to particular spatial domains. As o
f now, much of the research has been carried out w
ithin the respective fields and without much inter
action with researchers in other fields. The ai
m of this workshop is to present some recent advan
ces in the field with a particular emphasis on bri
nging researchers in various fields together for p
urposes of looking at unifying logical frameworks
(such as, for instance, modal logic) and getting a
better sense of the most fruitful avenues for fur
ther research. The workshop is held in the cont
ext of the Second North American Summer School in
Logic, Language and Information. For more informat
 ion, see http://www.dit.unitn.it/~aiellom/nasslli0
