DESCRIPTION:On the 9th January 2012, the programme
  "Semantics & Syntax" will be officially opened. I
 n addition to being the official opening of the pr
 ogramme, this event will provide the general mathe
 matical public (with strong emphasis on postgradua
 te students) a glimpse of the current state of the
  art and explain what is going to happen during th
 e six months at Cambridge.   The day is one of the
  Spitalfields Days of the London Mathematical Soci
 ety, named in honour of the Spitalfields Mathemati
 cal Society, a precursor of the London Mathematica
 l Society which flourished from 1717 to 1845. Spit
 alfields Days provide survey lectures aimed at a g
 eneral mathematical audience.   If you are a postg
 raduate student and wish to apply for a travel gra
