DESCRIPTION:My research investigates the nature of
categories and concepts in language, in non-lingu
istic perception and cognition, and the relations
 hip between them. I adopt a large-scale cross-cult
ural approach in order to establish which aspects
of categorisation are fundamentally shared, and w
hich language-specific. My work is interdisciplin
 ary, combining standardised psychological methodol
ogy, in-depth linguistic studies and ethnographic
 ally-informed description. This coordinated approa
ch has been used to study of domains such as spac
e, event representation and more recently the lang
uage of perception. For more information, see htt
