New PhD student at ILLC: Nick Bezhanishvili

Nick Bezhanishvili (Georgia) is PhD student at the ILLC as of January 1, 2002, working on the 'Constructive and Intensional Logic' project. His office will be room P.316 in the Euclides building. Below you can find a small text he has written to introduce himself.

From early childhood I have been told that the Netherlands is a wonderland with huge windmills, where in winters canals are covered by ice and people travel on ice skates.Competitions would take place on frozen lakes with silver skates as a prize. Many years later, while studying at Tbilisi State University, I realized that there is a distinguished school in logic in the Netherlands, and that a lot of outstanding scientists live and work there. I have met some of them in my country, Georgia, during the biannual symposium 'Logic, Language and Information', of which ILLC is one of the sponsors. This symposium enhances contacts between Georgian and Dutch logicians, and it helped me to make a final decision on my graduate studies. At present I am a Ph.D. student in the 'Constructive and Intensional Logic' project at ILLC and live in this wonderland. I am astonished with the high level of study at ILLC, as well as with the beauty of the city and its landmarks. Most of all, I am surprised with the hospitality and warmth which I feel from everywhere.
