PhD student and postdoctoral positions in Automated Reasoning or Semantic Web Services, Karlsruhe, Germany
The Semantic Web group (Prof. Rudi Studer) at AIFB Karlsruhe offers two research positions, to begin at the earliest possible date. The positions concern the following topics: [1] Automated reasoning/logic/knowledge representation (more info below) [2] Semantic Web Services (more info below) The Knowledge Management research group at the Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB, http://www.aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de/WBS) at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany, is an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, mathematicians, information technologists and industrial engineers and one of the world's leading research groups in the area of the Semantic Web. Applications should be sent by postal mail (no email) to Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer, Universität Karlsruhe (TH), Institute AIFB, 76128 Karlsruhe, Germany ---------------- [1] Research position (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) for a Ph.D. student or a postdoctoral researcher, on initial contract for two years, with the possibility of extending the contract. We are looking for an outstanding person for research in topics of automated reasoning, its logical foundations, and knowledge representation and reasoning, in order to join a team for developing expressive and scalable deduction paradigms and for realising them in software. One of the foci is the enhancement of the KAON2 OWL reasoner (http://kaon2.semanticweb.org/). Based on innovative algorithms, KAON2 is already one of the most efficient inference engines for OWL and is being used in large-scale EU projects and commercially in cooperation with ontoprise GmbH. This position requires excellent abilities in dealing with mathematical formalisms, and also solid programming experience, if possible in an industrial setting. We are looking forward to receiving applications from candidates who have recently completed a very good Masters degree in computer science or a related field and want to pursue a PhD project, or who have recently completed a PhD degree and are interested in research and project work in an internationally acclaimed research group. Application deadline: April 7th, 2006. Late applications may be considered. If you have questions about this position, please contact Dr. Pascal Hitzler, hitzler at aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de. -------------- [2] Research position (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) for a Ph.D. -------------- [2] Research position (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) for a Ph.D. student, on initial contract for two years, with the possibility of extending the contract. We are looking for a person to participate in our semantic Web services research area. Semantically-described services can enable the automated discovery, selection, composition and invocation of services. Along with Grid services, they are a primary foundation for service-oriented architectures. This position requires reasonable programming experience and some expertise with knowledge representation and planning techniques. Familiarity with distributed computing is a definite plus. Since this position requires interfacing with German national institutions, good knowledge of German is required. The position is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Eduation and Research (BMBF) as part of international and national projects. As a group, we participate in research related to Web Services, Semantic Web Reasoning, Ontology Management, Information Integration, Semantic Web Services and Applications of Computational Linguistics to Knowledge Modelling. We also have close connections to industry, in particular through FZI and ontoprise GmBH. If you have recently finished your Masters degree in computer science or a related field with very good results, wish to pursue a PhD project within an interdisciplinary group and are interested in team-oriented research and project work, then we look forward to receiving your application. Application deadline: March 17th, 2006. We may also consider late applications. If you have questions, feel free to contact Dr. Anupriya Ankolekar +49 (721) 608-8941 anupriya at aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de
