Postdoctoral Researcher in Sign Language Linguistics

Do you have a PhD in Sign Language Linguistics? Do you have good knowledge of Sign Language of the Netherlands? Are you well-versed in experimental methods in linguistic research as well as formal semantic modeling? We are seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to investigate the syntax and semantics of questions in Sign Language of the Netherlands through a number of production and comprehension studies.

What are you going to do

In this project you are expected to:

  • carry out production and comprehension studies to come to a better understanding of the syntax and semantics of questions in NGT;

  • publish in high level international journals;

  • present at leading international conferences and workshops;

  • supervise master and bachelor students;

  • possibly co-supervise PhD students;

  • contribute your expertise to joint research projects;

  • contribute to the teaching activities of the research group.

What do we require

  • a PhD in Sign Language Linguistics;

  • fluency in Sign Language of the Netherlands;

  • strong expertise in experimental methods in linguistics and formal semantics;

  • strong background in formal semantics, specifically semantic theories of questions;

  • excellent team working skills.

Our offer

A temporary contract for 38 hours a week, preferably starting on 1 December 2022 for the duration of 24 months. The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,836 to €4,474 gross per month (scale 10), based on a fulltime contract (38 hours a week). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.
