We are happy to invite you to a special talk on Wednesday, February 13. (preceeding the "Farewell Meeting Kees Doets")

Abstract:

Interval orders (IOs) originally were used as a most simple kind of event structures in N. Wiener's 1914 treatment of Russell's construction of instants. I discuss a few virtues comparing IOs to other axiom sets for periods and events. I relate intrusion of IOs into economics, measurement theory etc. to such virtues.

Numerous "representations" of IOs map non-points to intervals of points, even of reals. Morphisms and functors sometimes arise. I derive "alternatives" to category- theoretic results of van Benthem and S. K. Thomason.
