26 June 2023, Guest Lecture, Dr. Pascal Bercher

Speaker: Dr. Pascal Bercher
Title: Hierarchical Planning: Introduction and Modeling Support
Date: Monday 26 June 2023
Time: 13:15-15:00
Location: Room L1.10, Lab42, Science Park 900, Amsterdam

Dr. Bercher visits the ILLC and gives a guest lecture on the topic of Hierarchical Planning focussing on Modelling Support.

Abstract:

Automated planning, a subfield of Artificial Intelligence, is concerned with the automated generation of courses of action that turns the initial state of a system into a desired one. The talk provides an introduction into this reasoning technique, starting with the base case, called classical planning, and extending it to the more expressive formalism of Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning. The talk explores the relationship to formal grammars, including expressiveness and complexity studies. Finally, the talk touches the topic of modeling support, aiming at guiding users in creating planning domains.

Bio:

Pascal Bercher is a Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University. He's an expert for Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning with most contributions to heuristic search and complexity investigations. He recently turned his attention to modeling support, investigating foundations and creating techniques to provide assistance to users creating domain models.
