Title: Priority Merge and Intersection: from group attitudes to collective truth-tracking
Date: Tuesday 9 November 2021
Time: 16:00-17:15
Location: Ravensteynzaal (Kromme Nieuwegracht 80, room 1.06, Utrecht University)

Abstract: This talk compares the well-known notion of pooling through intersection, used to define, for instance, distributed knowledge, with the less standard lexicographic merge. We first introduce a (non-hybrid) modal framework capturing both notions on plausibility models. We then compare the logical behavior of the corresponding group attitudes modalities. Finally, we adopt a formal learning theoretic perspective to shed some light on how the two notions behave with respect to collective truth-tracking.The logic part of the talk is based on joint work with Olivier Roy and Norbert Gratzl (Review of Symbolic Logic, 2021), and the formal learning theoretic part is based on ongoing joint work with Nina Gierasimczuk and Thomas Skafte.
