Abstract
While there are growing concerns about the reduced perceived legitimacy of democratic institutions, we study alternative electoral processes hoping to uncover more accurate and representative ways to make decisions. We rely on probabilistic modeling that we confront with empirical analyses to investigate the compelling delegation-based voting system called liquid democracy. We identify both theoretically and empirically interesting regimes of interest where liquid democracy is an effective alternative to existing voting schemes.
